Champion is the penultimate truth of masculinity. It is the manifestation of power and control that pervades most nations of the world. In this instance it is expressed as two male deer that have died from fighting over breeding rites. Their antlers have become locked which is a death sentence for deer in the rut. Ironically, the two deer decompose and become the landscape they struggled to control.
