Continuum

Part of the artists ongoing series Future Ancestral Technologies, Continuum incorporates artist-made regalia, props, videos, and performance, and explores alternative possible futures for sites of post-industrial extraction, reimagining them anew through speculative oral histories for the future - as seen through the eyes of children.

During two intensive sessions for a Residency at Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center at Rensselaer (EMPAC) Cannupa Hanska Luger and family along with the EMPAC team filmed in various public locations around Troy, NY and in addition created a sound score and edited together a newly-commissioned 3 channel moving image work titled, Continuum.

Featured here is the video premiere event and artist/ curator talk in the Spring of 2022 and behind the scenes images on location during filming. This project is curated by Paulina Ascencio Fuentes, Yihsuan Chiu, Christine Nyce, and Gee Wesley, recent graduates from the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College.

“Continuum is a multi perspective visual experience - a potential future view through the wonder of the eyes of youth - where the viewpoint is not burdened by how things were but how they may be most honest in the present moment.”

— Cannupa Hanska Luger
